Headline of the Day (International Palin edition)

By Michael J.W. Stickings

This was the headline from the AFP yesterday:

Um, how exactly is it stepping onto the world stage to sit down for pre-arranged meetings with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, meetings purposely designed by the McCain campaign to make it seem as if their little neophyte is seriously engaged in world affairs? What could she possibly have had to say about the situations in either country? (Or was she just there to take it all in?) And how were the meetings in any way "diplomatic"?

She won't answer any questions and has essentially been cut off from the media, and vice versa, and she's being trotted out for brief meetings with select world leaders, that is, for photo ops, but we're still supposed to believe she's ready to be vice president, or even president?

Oh, and she "wore gold earrings in the shape of her home state of Alaska." Now that's classy.

Seriously, what the fuck is going on?

The United States is the most powerful country in the world. And someone like Palin, an extremist who has never been even remotely engaged on the major issues and challenges facing the country, is up for the second highest office in the land?
