Bigotry in the Bayou, resigned

Remember Keith Bardwell, that bigot of a Louisiana justice of the peace who refused to marry the interracial couple a while back?

Well, he's resigned.

In next year's special election to replace him -- the State Supreme Court will appoint an interim justice of the peace in the meantime -- perhaps the people of Tangipahoa Parish's 8th Ward will choose to bring their little corner of the Bayou State into the post-Civil Rights era.
